Fashion springs Forward

Katie King is excited about the latest spring fashion trends and this year calls for a profusion of color and various styles.

"Bright colors are always fun" said King. Spring is never shy of color and always promotes a lot of daring hues. King states "It's nice to mix them up once and awhile, pinks, oranges, blues and greens."
 

Spring is unmistakably a pleasing time of year, especially for the fashionable. While the constraint of winter was often unbearable with cold days and chilly nights, Spring brings new color and opportunity to flaunt oneself with the trends of the season. Refreshing your wardrobe with trendy pieces and lots of color for spring 2010 is a must.  

While Spring 2009 was filled with black on white prints, a touch of neon, pastels, and sequins, according to Pantone Fashion Color Report for Spring 2010 that coincides with New York Fashion Week, some of the most popular colors include, turquoise, tomato, corals, violets, yellows and blues. 

There are also a healthy balance of beiges, and light pinks being used as bases and backdrops to the brighter colors available. Color pairing creates trends for spring such as tomato put with turquoise for a retro look. If class is more your style, try a pink champagne, tomato and light blue for a refreshing change for the classic combination of the American colors, red, white and blue.

"The sailor look is very in right now, the red, blue and white stripes, I think that's really cute." King said.

An abundance of relentless leather pieces with pops of feather peering through are a wonderful way to blend textures and colors. Boyfriend blazers are continuing to be a wardrobe demand, the blazer is a simple way to look chic on a fresh spring day or breezy night. The oversized jacket or blazer can be worn in a variety of ways, sleeves rolled up, is the perfect culmination of calm and collected. "Leggings, dresses, and long shirts, are being seen a lot." Said King. Micro mini dresses are a great way to stay and look cool this season. High dress splits are the equvilent of the mini. Long gowns and smock dresses with high split up the side is a way to pull off sexy without the micro mini.  Lace and chiffon dresses are another popular evening trend, fun and full of flirt. Knee high socks, over the knee and thigh high socks are back as a provoking trend. The privileges on how to wear them are many. From patterned to sparkly and even sporty, an extensive pair of socks can add dimensions to an outfit.  

Kelly Eisel a screenwriting major said she prefers to shop at second hand places as much as possible, however, "I caved and bought cowgirl boots, I think they're just the right amount of flashy to be obnoxious." Other foot trends include gladiator style sandals and ankle boots. In Pittsburgh, there are many different varieties of discount stores. "I'm sure everyone knows about Avalon," said Eisel. Avalon is a discount exchange store located in Squirrel Hill on Forbes. Avalon features brands such as J.Crew, H&M, American Apparel, Guess, Gap, Louis Vuitton and many others. They welcome and buy modern and contemporary clothing. Buyers look at individual pieces and pick a retail price that they believe they can sell in the store. 30% of retail price is paid to the customer in cash, that day and no appointment is necessary. Via and Fluid located in the SouthSide Works have warm looks great for spring and even delving into those boisterous summertime looks. Villa downtown located near Point Park on Wood St. also has plenty of color, shoes and modest pricing.

Forever 21 is a hotspot for 2010 spring fashion and discount prices. Sasha Toro, a sophomore musical theater major is liking greens this season and goes with the flow "if I like it, I like it," says Toro. Forever 21 is holding a huge spring and clearance sale "SALE, that is my favorite word" states Toro. King agrees that Forever 21 is the place for discounts "Forever 21 from what I've seen has the most reasonably priced clothing and accessories" Says King.
